- Submission to God – The matter of creating an energizing cycle of obedience, love, blessings, and sanctification through total submission to God. We learn the need to establish the priorities of God first, spouse second, and children third.
- Leaving and cleaving – The matter of establishing a separate marital household in order to assure that husband and wife cleave and become one flesh. We learn to avoid dependency on our parents, and we must help our parents cut the apron strings of control so that we can learn to rely together on God primarily and then on each other as husband and wife secondly.
- Husband as spiritual leader – The matter of a husband’s primary marital role as the spiritual head of the household, just as Christ is the head of the church. Embracing this role allows a husband to initiate and maintain a spiritual energizing cycle and to be a co-partner in marriage with God and his wife.
- Wife as spiritual helper and companion – The matter of a wife’s primary marital role as helper and companion in absolute equal value with her husband. Embracing this role allows a wife to initiate and maintain a spiritual energizing cycle and to be a co-partner in marriage with God and her husband.
- Husband to love his wife – The matter of a husband’s primary marital responsibility to sacrificially love his wife as Christ loved the church, so much so that he would die for her, thereby initiating and continuing an energizing cycle of love and respect.
- Wife to respect her husband – The matter of a wife’s primary marital responsibility to love her husband by showing him respect, thereby initiating and continuing an energizing cycle of love and respect.
- Mutual submission – The matter of a husband and wife submitting to each other physically, in decision-making, and when in conflict, thereby maintaining the energizing cycle of love and respect.
God’s promise is that when you follow His Design for Marriage, your marriage will be blessed in unimaginable ways.
